Founder and Executive Director of Yes!
Five years ago, Lauren Boyd was just an undergraduate communications student at Farber University, unaffiliated with any on–campus social or political group. But after taking a General Ed course on Environmental Science and Policy (taught by Professor Frank Sutherland, Ph.D) she became extremely interested in the green movement and its effects on both government policy and social perceptions. When Farber U announced that it was teaming up with Hazelton Laboratories to conduct genetic research in the agricultural department, Lauren decided that it was time to mobilize a protest for the good of the Cape Hazard community: YES! was born.
Through Lauren and her team’s hard work and dedication, the University finally saw its error in conducting genetic engineering research and finally shut down the questionable aspects of its study. It was this victory that demonstrated to Lauren the power of protest, and it was then that she decided to expand YES!’s influence to other pressing environmental issues, including animal rights and the anti–nuclear movement. YES! is now recognized as a leading local force in the Cape Hazard environmental movement, and Lauren is its full–time employee, still dedicated to organizing students against the corporate machine that’s threatening the safety of our citizens and our environment.
Co–founder and Vice President of Yes!
Frank Sutherland is a Professor of Environmental Science at Farber University. He has been committed to environmental activism since 1978, when as a university student he joined Greenpeace. Since then he has spent years at home and abroad, fighting the devastation to the environment brought on by corporate greed and governmental inefficiency. Frank has traveled throughout the world to countries such as China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, France, Switzerland, England, Germany, as well as all over the US, as a part of a lecture series intended to educate and mobilize students for the green cause. He has recently published a book entitled Green War: The Real Battle for Earth’s Salvation. He currently resides in Cape Hazard with his wife and two children.
Student Outreach Coordinator of Yes!
Paul Smith is a recognized name amongst the animal and environmental movement scene. In 1999, he was arrested, tried, and briefly incarcerated for animal liberation crimes after releasing a pair of chimpanzees from a cosmetics laboratory. As a part of his sentence, he was required to spend time traveling around the country, educating students on the environmental and animal movements and the legal means of challenging government and corporate policy. Now he is a citizen of Cape Hazard and has joined the YES! team in order to further strengthen the movement on a more localized level. Paul is in charge of YES! student affairs and works out of the group’s Farber U on–campus office. He is also affiliated with organizations such as PETA, Friends of Animals, and Greenpeace. He is available for consultation both through our office and via email.
Legal Advisor to Yes!
Tim is the newest team member of YES!. He is currently a graduate student at Farber Law and specializes in Environmental Law and Policy.
